Standing Together for Denim Day in Harford County, Maryland

This April, our team proudly stood together in support of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) by participating in Denim Day, a global movement dedicated to raising awareness about sexual violence and supporting survivors.

Observed annually on the last Wednesday of April, Denim Day encourages individuals, businesses, and communities to wear denim as a visible statement against victim-blaming and harmful misconceptions surrounding sexual assault.

What Denim Day Represents

Denim Day began as a powerful protest following a court ruling in Italy that wrongfully suggested a victim’s clothing implied consent. In response, advocates and lawmakers wore jeans in solidarity, sparking what has grown into an international movement.

Today, wearing denim symbolizes a unified commitment to:

  • Supporting survivors of sexual assault
  • Challenging harmful myths and stigma
  • Promoting education, prevention, and accountability

While wearing denim may seem like a small gesture, it carries a meaningful message: there is never an excuse for sexual violence, and survivors deserve to be heard, believed, and supported.
